Police Taser Victim Believed to be Footballer, Dalian Atkinson
West Mercia Police were called to an address on Meadow Close in Telford following a report of concern for the safety of a man at around 1:30am this morning.
During the police attendance a Taser was used by a police officer on a man, now thought to be 48 year old Dalian Atkinson.
An ambulance was called by police and the man was conveyed to Princess Royal Hospital. Sadly, his condition deteriorated and he went into cardiac arrest during the transition. He was later pronounced dead at 3:00am.
The death has been referred to the IPCC and has been reported to the coroner.
Dalian Atkinson played for Aston Villa, Ipswich Town, and Sheffield Wednesday. During his 16 year career, he also won one cap for England B. He is best remembered for scoring the Match of the Day goal in the 1992/3 season during the Aston Villa away match at Wimbledon.
