Dementia Friends is an initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society.
They help you to understand and learn about what it is actually like to live with dementia and the small ways in which you can help.
There are information sessions held locally run by Dementia Friends “champions” who are trained and supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. These sessions are a chance to get together and learn more with a view to helping to create dementia friendly communities.
There is a helpful online video about Gina and her life living with dementia. You can sign up on the website and receive a ‘little book of friendship’ that contains more useful tips on how we can support those living with dementia.
You could even go on to become a dementia champion and continue to help others.
It is important for us at Southerns to understand how living with dementia affects not only the person with the illness but their family and friends. This will ensure we can support and give the correct and appropriate legal advice to those families who are affected.
