MARK FLAVELL’S ROLE
Mark is the Head of our Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Departments, a Senior Associate at Southerns and a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. He has been a qualified Fellow since 1993.
He has many years of extensive experience working for a variety of Employers’ Liability and Public Liability insurers undertaking defendant personal injury work. His main interests lie in multi track and large loss traumatic orthopaedic/psychiatric injury work and he has acted for an array of clients over many years in the industrial, manufacturing and retail sectors.
In more recent years he has also been involved in undertaking work for the National Health Service Litigation Authority (Resolution) and has gained wide experience in EL/PL defence work for hospitals, psychiatric units and care homes, which has included claims by paramedics and nurses as well as assaults by service users, and claims alleging abuse and neglect. Mark is used to managing a significant caseload of traumatic injury multi track files often with a pleaded claim value in excess of £100,000. He has also conducted files with a value in excess of £500,000 and up to £1.5m. Notably, Mark defended the interests of an NHS Trust in the reported case of Hayden v Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (2016) EWHC 1962(QB).
Mark is able to apply his wide experience and skills to assist clients in maximising damages in all manner of workplace accident claims, public liability and occupier’s liability claims, those involving abuse and neglect in care homes, and claims relating to medical negligence.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys live music, theatre and cinema, socialising with friends and getting out in the wide open spaces of Rossendale. He is married with 2 daughters.
